synergies
just now on the subway i heard one little girl deliver the clearest explanation of how to blow a bubble i've ever heard. i want to try now.
i read marcus aurelius's "meditations" a couple days ago. i /really/ wish i'd stumbled upon this sooner. i mean, i'm no stoic, much less a Stoic, but it directly addressed several of the moral questions i've been stumbling over. more on this soon.
current reading list:
e. l. doctorow, "the book of daniel"
foucault, "madness and civilization"
w. james, "the varieties of the religious experience"
ngai, "ugly feelings" (still)
m. amis, "yellow dog"
pynchon, "the crying of lot 49"
the rough guide to china
wallace, "consider the lobster"
nussbaum, "frontiers of justice"
banville, "the sea"
i love christmas book-buying.

Question: How Are Your Links Organized?
On my bookmarks bar:
•Columbia Spectator
•Regular Reading (pull-down: Slate, Salon, AL Daily)
•Reference (pull-down: various library database)
•Google
•Columbia
•News (pull-down: RSS feeds)
•Blogs (pull-down: Friends' Blogs)
•Essays (pull-down: Paul Graham, Malcolm Gladwell)
•Amazon.com
I can't decide if I like having pull-down menus of most/all of the sites I use or would rather have buttons for the ones I use most readily. Hmm. The crises of the not-working world. (For three more days.)
EDIT: Speaking of which, is it just me, or is Salon getting steadily more vapid? The more articles I read about how hard it is to fit into low-rise genes or hire a nanny, the more ashamed I am of having subscribed. I mean, Slate is always a little irritating, but Salon should be a home for decent journalism. More and more I find myself preferring Slashdot.
Also: I've realized that I really like magazines. This is all.

Speaking of which...
My bulleted lists there reminded me of a post I read awhile back: "totally just invented the best format for music EVER" (http://www.livejournal.com/users/qwantz/28155.html).
an excerpt:
Here is the Ghostbusters theme song in list format.
•Things I ain't afraid of:
•no ghost
•Strange things in the neighbourhood (partial list):
•seeing things running through head
•invisible man sleeping in bed
•Things that make me feel good:
•bustin'
•Who you gonna call:
•Ghostbusters
•I can't hear you
•Louder
Regarding Istanbul
•Istanbul:
*not Constantinople
*a Turkish delight on a moonlit night
Every girl in Istanbul:
*lives in Istanbul
*does not live in Constantinople
Old New York:
*once New Amsterdam
*unsure why it was changed -> popular?
Constantinople:
*long time gone
*got the works
To which I add
That's noooobody's business but the Turks.....
